Week of Dec. 14

Friday
Grammar (error/fixit) competition in class.
Homework: Read and work on vocab over the break. Enjoy the time off!



Thursday
Quarters for Caring Fair; time in Homeroom after lunch. No Language Arts class.
Homework: Plan to read over the break.



Wednesday
Students received graded Stave One Review questions back, with comments as to their score. They then worked on and turned in What Would Be on your Chain w/s. The plan is to share on Friday.
Homework: Prepare for Quarters for Caring Fair.



Tuesday
Students completed a Stave One Review.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.



Monday
Students completed a Narrative Hooks w/s from a section of Stave One of A Christmas Carol. We then finished reading Stave One in class.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.

Week of Dec. 7

Friday
Students created comprehension questions based on a section of A Christmas Carol that we read yestday. They had to vary the level of difficulty (Bloom's taxonomy) and supply a rubric that included the point value and the acceptable answers.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.



Thursday
We started reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.



Wednesday
We graded Monday's quizzes and had time to read silently towards AR goal.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.


Tuesday
Students took the mid-point online STAR Reading assessment and had time to read and take AR tests.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.


Monday
I collected the thinking maps from last Wednesday (on Charles Dickens).
We took the pos/sed roots quiz.
Students received a handout with the vocabulary words from A Christmas Carol (directions are on sheet). Note page numbers where they occur in the text!!
We read an article on the Historical Setting for A Christmas Carol.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.
Upcoming: Mid-year STAR test tomorrow.

Week of Nov. 30

Friday
We worked on metaphors in class.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc. Po, Sed test Monday.
Upcoming: Mid-year STAR test next Tuesday.



Thursday
Students had time in class to read their AR books.
Homework: Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.


Wednesday
Students prepared for reading A Christmas Carol by reading a biography of Charles Dickens and an article entitled "The Second Greatest Story Ever Told." Use this information to create a brace or classification (tree) thinking map of the information in the handouts. No circle maps!
Homework: Finish thinking map.


Tuesday

We completed a worksheet on metaphors.
Homework: There will be a review quiz on the pos and sed, sid root words later this week. Continue to review vocab, parts of speech, etc.






Monday
Finished the "Cole" packet, completed Medal of Honor w/s, and went over the answers to both.
Discussed introductory and concluding paragraphs (yellow handout) in regards to what format would be appropriate for a research essay (e.g., the one students are working on in Social Studies).
Homework: Study parts of speech, vocab, etc. There will be a review quiz on the pos and sed, sid root words (last two Roots quizzes material) on Friday.
