Thursday
Our warm-up was a political cartoon about the Winter Olympics, with the question: What is the author trying to say; what is being implied? What can we infer from the image? We got some terrific responses and saw how our schema, or prior knowledge, plays into what we infer from images and text.
Unjournaling #197 (paragraphs one and two only): Create a character named Pat.
Remembering what we learned yesterday about inference (the stew story), students were to follow the prompt, but imply as much as possible. They then swapped with a partner and had the partner make inferences about the character.
Picture Prompt Writing: complete in composition book, and tape 1/2 sheet in afterwards.
