Week of Feb. 21

Friday
Students re-worked the final drafts of their "Mall" letters and submitted them for grading on the Learning Express website. Students were encouraged to look at the rubric to increase their scores.
I collected the rough drafts with corrections, and any final drafts not finished by the end of class are due to me by email by Monday morning.
Homework:
Finish and email me the final drafts.
Create an account at prezi.com (use first name and last initial only) and see what you can do. You will be using it later for an assignment.

Thursday
Science Fair Expo Day
No class - special schedule

Wednesday
Students finished the summaries, had them reviewed by a peer, made necessary corrections and emailed them to me.
Students then began re-working their "Mall" letters. I had printed out the rough drafts so students could mark corrections on them.
Homework:
Have corrections ready by Friday, when we will type the letters up in MS Word and then submit for grading on the Learning Express website.

Tuesday
Handout: Writing an Analytic Summary
In the lab, we practised getting the main idea of articles. We read guidelines for writing the summary and the steps for doing so. After reading the "Bats" article, students created a tree map with main ideas and some supporting details.
In Microsoft Word, students wrote up a draft of their summary, which was then reviewed by another student using the Summary Checklist.
Homework:
Email me the persuasive mall letters from last week if you have not already done so. We will need them tomorrow.

Monday
No School - Presidents' Day
