Thursday
Using the same model we've been practicing all week, we used persuasive techniques to respond to whether or not sports teams should be co-ed. We started by making a tree map of the pros and cons of co-ed teams and then selected the three strongest points (either pro or con). First, we wrote the intro paragraph with an attention-getter and thesis statement. After this, we used a flee map to organize the paper, putting one argument in each box, from the least important to the most important. We added details under each box, and transition words/phrases on top of each one.
At this point, it was time to tackle the body paragraph using the flee map as a guide. We referred to the four ways to appeal (in the Tales notebook) to enhance our persuasive technique.
Next came the final paragraph, in which the arguments were reiterated, a counterargument was negated, and the ending was firm and persuasive. Those who did not complete the final paragraph took it home to finish.
