Friday
Early Release - Special Schedule
We worked on test preparation.
Homework:
Review persuasive techniques.
Two packets - Reading Comprehension and Reading Test.
Thursday
Students took the Poetry Terms quiz.
We then listened to a reading of The Highwayman poem - just the audio, not the images, discussed the plot, and in a chart listed three words/phrases from the poem to describe the highwayman, Tim the ostler, and Bess (perhaps using a Tree Map).
We watched a video of the poem set to music and afterwards went through the text of the poem and underlined/highlighted figurative language, noting the name in the margin.
To check for accuracy, we used this interactive website
Homework:
Review for Literary Elements quiz tomorrow.
Wednesday
We took the Best Laid Plans quiz on Week 2 words.
We also completed a worksheet on the usage of it and it's and reviewed common elements of myth and folklore.
Students then were challenged to write a short paragraph describing one of three scenarios:
- walking in a forest
- going on a first date
- getting arrested and going to the police station
The challenge was to make it as dull and boring as possible (do not use ways to elaborate that we have been reviewing).
The second part of the activity will take place next week.
